Carmen a tout de suite réagi en découvrant mon blog.
Tyler, en réponse à mon message, m’a annoncé que dans certaines villes du Saskatchewan, la température était descendue à -47 le 30 janvier !
Carmen immediately reacted when she discovered my blog.
Tyler, in response to my message, told me that in some cities in Saskatchewan, the temperature had dropped to -47 on January 30!

Quand il est arrivé chez nous l’été dernier, il a été très surpris de découvrir le nom de notre chatte : Saskatoon, car c’est aussi le nom de la ville où il habite. Et c’est encore le nom amérindien de l’amélanchier.
When he arrived in our home last summer, he was very surprised to discover the name of our cat: Saskatoon, because it is also the name of the city where he lives. And it’s still the Native American’s name for « amélanchier », a tree.

J’ai été heureuse de réveiller mon blog la semaine dernière. J’avais parlé du séjour de Tchi, puis je n’avais plus rien raconté. D’autres personnes sont venues chez nous, je me sens un peu coupable de ne pas les avoir évoquées ici. Alors, les voici :
I was happy to wake up my blog last week. I had talked about Tchi’s stay, and then I had not told anything. Other people came to us, I feel a little guilty of not having mentioned them here. So here they are:

Le passé : été 2016

Johannes, venu d’Allemagne, était notre soixantième helper, et nous étions ses cinquante-cinquièmes hôtes. Il est arrivé en vélo, un jour de juillet de forte chaleur, très fatigué par son trajet. Il a beaucoup travaillé au jardin. Jonathan, qui avait rencontré Tchi après son départ de chez nous, est arrivé ensuite. C’est le moment où Alain est venu nous faire une visite, puis Tingong qui a rencontré Manwei. Alain cherchait des nouvelles de son frère au Vénézuela, Édith l’a mis en contact avec une amie vénézuelienne habitant Grenoble. Sharane est arrivé ensuite et a travaillé le plus souvent avec Jonathan. Comme Paul et moi étions allés en Inde, nous avons beaucoup parlé de son pays avec Sharane. Pour lui, c’est difficile de quitter un pays si lointain et de se retrouver très isolé en France, avec une culture si différente.
Johannes, from Germany, was our sixtieth helper, and we were his fifty-fifth hosts. He arrived by bike on a hot July day, he was very tired by his ride. He worked a lot in the garden. Jonathan, who had met Tchi after she leaved us, arrived afterwards. Also Alain came to visit us, then Tingong who met Manwei. Alain was searching what happened to his brother in Venezuela, Edith put him in touch with a Venezuelan friend living in Grenoble. Sharane arrived later and worked most often with Jonathan. Since Paul and I went to India, we talked a lot about his country with Sharane. For him, it is difficult to leave a country so far away and to be very isolated in France, with such a different culture.

Il y avait beaucoup à faire avec les bambous : pour Jonathan et Sharane, peu habitués à ce type de travail, c’était fatigant.
There was a lot to do with bamboo: Jonathan and Sharane were unaccustomed to this work, it was tiring for them.

Nous aimons faire cuisiner nos helpers. Un jour, Sharane prépare des galettes à la farine de riz et du riz aux légumes. Une autre fois, Jonathan prépare une tortilla.
We like to ask our helpers to cook. One day, Sharane prepares cakes with rice flour and rice with vegetables. Another time, Jonathan is preparing a tortilla.

Plus tard, nous hébergeons Michelle et Katie.
Later, we host Michelle and Katie.
Michelle est très surprise par le goût des légumes, préparés tout naturellement, et bons simplement parce qu’ils sont de bonne qualité. Avec Katie elle fait beaucoup d’arrosage et de désherbage, de récoltes. Elles passent un produit de protection sur le bois de la cabane. Paul les emmène faire le circuit d’Innimont pendant la visite de Xavier. Il leur fait aussi découvrir le marché de Morestel.
Michelle is very surprised by the taste of vegetables, prepared naturally, and good simply because they are of good quality. With Katie she does a lot of watering and weeding, harvesting. They pass a protection product on the wood of the hut. Paul drives them to the Innimont circuit during Xavier’s visit. Paul also drives them to discover the market in Morestel.

Été 2017

Nous avons choisi de voir moins de monde, nous avions besoin de vivre autre chose. Mais Anne-Marie, venue des États-Unis pour faire un voyage en Europe, souhaitait nous rencontrer, alors elle est restée quelques jours chez nous.
We chose to see fewer people, we needed to live something else. But Anne-Marie, coming from the United States to visit Europe, wanted to meet us, so she stayed a few days with us.

Nous avons été heureux de revoir Brad, venu chez nous en 2015, qui venait en France une nouvelle fois. À son arrivée, je lui ai fait visiter le parc sous un beau soleil. Quand la pluie est arrivée, nous sommes rentrés tranquillement. La pluie est devenue une tempête d’une rare violence, qui a fait beaucoup de dégâts dans la région. Pendant son séjour, Brad a débité le bois des arbres tombés !
We were happy to see Brad who came to our home in 2015, who was coming to France again. When he arrived, I showed him the park under a beautiful sun. When the rain came, we went home quietly. The rain became a storm of rare violence, which did a lot of damage in the area. During his stay, Brad cut wood from fallen trees!

Le reste de l’année, bien sûr, nous avons été bien occupés et pas toujours seuls. Nous avons souvent vu Ariane et Renato chez eux ou chez nous, et puis la famille. Nous avons refait l’aménagement de la chambre de nos petites-filles.
The rest of the year, of course, we were busy and not always alone. We have often seen Ariane and Renato in their home or in our, and the family. We redid the fitting out of the room of our granddaughters.

Sébastien a construit sa première « tiny house » et il est parti avec s’installer en Bretagne.

Nous avons passé une semaine à parcourir le splendide mont Lozère et à l’automne nous sommes partis découvrir le pays Basque. Au retour, nous avons fait un gros chantier pour créer le préau et aménager une pièce qui sera pour moi.
We spent a week walking on the splendid Mount Lozère and in the autumn we went to discover the Basque country. On the way back, we did a big job to create the courtyard and build a room that will be for me.

Encore des années bien remplies.
