\nNous avons revu nos petites-filles le 17 mai. Je suis partie en v\u00e9lo avant que les autres me rejoignent et le chargent sur la voiture. On se serait crus \u00ab\u00a0comme avant\u00a0\u00bb, il faisait beau et il y avait une circulation intense, voitures, motos, v\u00e9los\u2026 Il y a, sans surprise, une fr\u00e9n\u00e9sie \u00e0 reprendre les \u00ab\u00a0bonnes\u00a0\u00bb habitudes. Au quotidien, la seule diff\u00e9rence c\u2019est le port du masque, impos\u00e9 dans la plupart des magasins, port\u00e9s parfois dans la rue.<\/strong>
\nWe saw again our granddaughters on May 17th. I went on a bike before the others joined me and loaded it onto the car. We would have thought \u00ab\u00a0as before\u00a0\u00bb, the weather was good and there was intense traffic, cars, motorcycles, bikes … There is, not surprisingly, a frenzy to resume the \u00ab\u00a0good\u00a0\u00bb habits. De retour chez nous bien s\u00fbr la routine continue\u2026 Paul passe des heures \u00e0 jardiner, j\u2019ai toujours mille choses \u00e0 faire avant de l\u2019aider. Pourtant, il y a une urgence, les oignons sont attaqu\u00e9s par un parasite\u00a0: j\u2019utilise le Bacillus Thuringiensis pour tenter de les sauver.<\/strong>
\nJe fais un peu de d\u00e9sherbage ici ou l\u00e0, j\u2019ai souvent \u00e0 la main un s\u00e9cateur bien utile.<\/strong>
\nPaul repique, pioche et se fait mal au dos, tamise de la terre, fait des kilom\u00e8tres\u00a0!<\/strong>
\nIl avait jet\u00e9 des rhizomes de canna sur un compost l\u2019ann\u00e9e derni\u00e8re, aujourd\u2019hui de magnifiques cannas se d\u00e9veloppent et prolif\u00e8rent\u00a0: Paul d\u00e9place vers un autre tas le compost auquel il servira de ferment, et passe la motobineuse autour de ce nouveau massif de fleurs.<\/strong>
\nBack home of course the routine goes on … Paul spends hours gardening, I always have a thousand things to do before helping him. However, there is an emergency, the onions are attacked by a parasite: I use Bacillus Thuringiensis to try to save them.<\/strong><\/span>

\nHe had thrown canna rhizomes on a compost last year, today magnificent cannas develop and proliferate: Paul moves to another pile the compost to which he will serve as ferment, and passes the tiller around this new flower bed.

Notre quotidien s\u2019emballe quand arrive le grand week-end de l\u2019Ascension. Le projet de Laurent\u2026 mais c\u2019est qui Laurent\u00a0? Notre premier contact a eu lieu en janvier 2019, suite \u00e0 une annonce qu\u2019il avait pass\u00e9e dans la revue \u00ab\u00a0l\u2019\u00c2ge de Faire\u00a0\u00bb\u00a0: il \u00e9tait \u00e0 la recherche d\u2019un bout de terrain o\u00f9 poser sa tiny house. Nous \u00e9tablissons un \u00e9change de service, un peu comme on l\u2019a fait avec les helpers et les workawayers.<\/strong>
\nOur daily lives get carried away when the long Ascension weekend arrives. Laurent’s project … but who is Laurent? Our first contact took place in January 2019, following an announcement he had made in the review \u00ab\u00a0l\u2019\u00c2ge de Faire\u00a0\u00bb: he was looking for a piece of land to put his tiny house. We\u00a0organize a service exchange, like we did with helpers and workawayers.

Depuis cette rencontre, Laurent et Nathalie sont venus nous voir \u00e0 plusieurs reprises. <\/strong>

S\u00e9b essaie de passer avec son Chamion entre la souche et le bouquet de noisetiers, il faudra que la petite maison de Laurent passe par le m\u00eame chemin. Le Chamion passe \u00ab\u00a0presque\u00a0\u00bb\u00a0, \u00e7a veut dire qu\u2019il ne passe pas du tout. Eh bien c\u2019est d\u00e9cid\u00e9, il va falloir d\u00e9truire la souche. Je r\u00e9ussis avec une seule allumette \u00e0 d\u00e9marrer un feu qui va br\u00fbler pendant quatre jours. Laurent avait pr\u00e9vu de donner un s\u00e9rieux coup de main, mais il n\u2019a pas pu venir aider \u00e0 cause du confinement.<\/strong>
\nS\u00e9b tries to pass with his Chamion between the stump and the bunch of hazelnuts, the small house of Laurent will have to pass by the same way. The Chamion passes \u00ab\u00a0almost\u00a0\u00bb, that means that it does not pass at all. Well it\u2019s decided, we\u2019ll have to destroy the stump. I manage with a single match to start a fire that will burn for four days. Laurent had planned to give a serious helping hand, but he could not come to help because of the confinement.

Je r\u00e9colte plus de quatre kilos de rhubarbe – J\u00e9r\u00f4me va \u00eatre jaloux\u00a0! – et j\u2019en trie la moiti\u00e9\u00a0: comme je l\u2019expliquais l\u2019autre jour, je laisse mac\u00e9rer le sucre, une heure suffit je pense. Et avant de mettre \u00e0 cuire je go\u00fbte\u2026 Mais la rhubarbe crue, \u00e7a ne me dit rien du tout – j\u2019aurais essay\u00e9\u00a0!<\/strong>
\nI harvest more than four kilos of rhubarb – J\u00e9r\u00f4me will be jealous! – and I sort half of it: as I explained the other day, I let the sugar macerate, an hour is enough I think. And before I cook I taste … But raw rhubarb doesn’t mean anything to me at all – I would have tried!

Tout le monde s\u2019active, un soulagement pour Paul et moi\u00a0! Il y a du monde partout, des groupes informels de discussions vari\u00e9es, de la musique arrive depuis le parc\u2026 Quel plaisir d\u2019\u00eatre nombreux\u00a0!<\/strong>
\nBut Laurent arrives, and Nathalie, and Solenn. I instruct them to sort the rest of the rhubarb while Laurent is gardening. Nathalie stains here and there. Everyone is busy, a relief for Paul and me! There are people everywhere, informal groups of various discussions, music arrives from the park … What a pleasure to be numerous!<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

D\u2019autres ont parl\u00e9 de paradis, ici, au Charbinat, dans le jardin, dans le parc, au soleil levant, au milieu des chants d\u2019oiseaux (et des braillements des coqs, car des coqs entass\u00e9s trop nombreux dans un space r\u00e9duit, \u00e7a braille)\u2026 Et moi j\u2019ai souvent pens\u00e9 que ce paradis, c\u2019est quand m\u00eame un peu l\u2019enfer, le travail n\u2019est jamais fini, et les soucis du jardinier permanents (parasites, limaces, coup de froid, gel, s\u00e9cheresse\u2026 et j\u2019en passe – ne pas oublier les pulv\u00e9risations toxiques du voisin\u2026).<\/strong>
\nJean-Pierre is in paradise. Laurent hesitates to use a term so far removed from his beliefs. Others have spoken of paradise, here in Charbinat, in the garden, in the park, in the rising sun, in the midst of birdsong (and roars of roosters, because roosters crowded too many in a small space are roaring)\u2026 And I have often thought that this paradise is still a bit of hell, the work is never finished, and the gardener’s concerns are permanent (parasites, slugs, cold, frost , drought … and so on – don’t forget the neighbor’s toxic sprays …).<\/strong><\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n

\nJe commence \u00e0 comprendre que le paradis, \u00e7a peut \u00eatre \u00e7a, un labeur interminable et pas toujours gratifiant par exemple quand la m\u00e9t\u00e9o ne suit pas, un paradis qui se paye en permanence, mais un paradis car on s\u2019y sent si bien\u2026 En d\u2019autres termes, les efforts ne sont pas toujours r\u00e9compens\u00e9s, et pourtant c\u2019est le meilleur choix qu\u2019on a \u00e0 faire.
\n<\/strong>I am beginning to understand that paradise can be that, an endless and not always gratifying work for example when the weather is bad,\u00a0a paradise that one has to pay all the time, but a paradise because it feels so good … In other words, efforts are not always rewarded, and yet it is the best choice one has to make.

Solenn go\u00fbte enfin un long week-end de libert\u00e9 apr\u00e8s un interminable confinement \u00e0 tavailler dans son appartement de la Croix-Rousse, \u00e0 Lyon. Pour Nathalie, le travail a repris dans sa m\u00e9diath\u00e8que et c\u2019est infernal. Nous passons de longs moments \u00e0 \u00e9changer sur nos exp\u00e9riences, avec sans surprise une formule qui revient souvent\u00a0: on n\u2019est pas \u00e9gaux devant le confinement\u00a0!<\/strong>
\nSolenn finally\u00a0appreciates a long weekend of freedom after an interminable confinement, working in her apartment in Croix-Rousse, in Lyon. For Nathalie, work has resumed in her media library and it’s hellish. We spend long moments sharing our experiences, with no surprise a formula that often comes up: we are not equal when it comes to confinement!<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Le r\u00e9pertoire de Nathalie et Laurent n\u2019est pas tr\u00e8s joyeux, il faut dire qu\u2019ils adorent les saudades\u00a0! Alors nous cherchons de quels titres de Boby Lapointe nous nous rappelons, et ceux qui se rappellent se joignent au chant\u2026 Pour marquer le tempo, quelques clous dans une bo\u00eete de caf\u00e9 feraient l\u2019affaire si ce n\u2019\u00e9tait si lourd. Nous passons un moment fort agr\u00e9able.<\/strong>
