Fiona est arriv\u00e9e le 21 ao\u00fbt, au moment pr\u00e9cis o\u00f9 l\u2019on \u00e9tait en plein chantier dans la cuisine : il y avait un besoin urgent de r\u00e9novation. Elle n’a pas assist\u00e9 au d\u00e9montage, mais \u00e0 la\u00a0 reconstruction.<\/p>\n

Marie et B\u00e9atrice \u00e9taient encore l\u00e0.<\/p>\n

Le lendemain le carrelage \u00e9tait pos\u00e9 : Fiona a beaucoup aid\u00e9 pour le nouvel am\u00e9nagement de la pi\u00e8ce.<\/p>\n

Les travaux \u00e0 l’ext\u00e9rieur ne manquaient pas non plus.<\/p>\n

R\u00e9colte de framboises, de haricots… Coulis de tomates. D\u00e9montage des rames de haricots pos\u00e9es par Paul et Janet…<\/p>\n

Avec Fiona, nous avons parl\u00e9 fran\u00e7ais. Elle s’exprime tr\u00e8s bien avec peu d’accent. Quand B\u00e9atrice et Marie \u00e9taient encore l\u00e0, tout le monde parlait fran\u00e7ais.<\/p>\n

Son compagnon, Jonny, est arriv\u00e9 le 4 septembre et tous deux sont partis en Savoie pour un autre contrat Help X. C’est lui qui a conduit la voiture de Fiona depuis l’Angleterre, maintenant ils peuvent voyager plus facilement.<\/p>\n

Le 10 novembre, Fiona nous a invit\u00e9s \u00e0 Ch\u00e2tillon o\u00f9 elle travaille maintenant. Plaisir de se revoir et d’\u00e9changer les nouvelles – le blog, oui, bien s\u00fbr, mais ce n’est pas pareil.<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Elle nous a montr\u00e9 les photos de leur s\u00e9jour en Savoie, des randonn\u00e9es en montagne, de \u00ab\u00a0via ferrata\u00a0\u00bb. Le travail demand\u00e9 \u00e9tait organis\u00e9 d’une fa\u00e7on tr\u00e8s diff\u00e9rente, et tous deux ont pu profiter de journ\u00e9es de libert\u00e9, aussi bien pour les balades que pour chercher du travail.<\/p>\n

Aujourd’hui, Fiona est assistante d’anglais \u00e0 temps partiel dans une \u00e9cole. L’ambiance est plaisante, elle est entour\u00e9e de gens sympathiques. Elle habite une maison dont les enfants, devenus grands, sont partis : de la place lui est rest\u00e9e, dans une chambre bien s\u00fbr, mais aussi partout ailleurs dans la maison, et, surtout, dans le c\u0153ur de ses h\u00f4tes.<\/p>\n

Elle a beaucoup de chance : il y a tant de gens isol\u00e9s, solitaires, dans un pays dont ils connaissent la langue mal, ou pas du tout ! La vie dans la solitude est tellement difficile, si on ne l’a pas choisie !<\/p>\n

\"\"<\/a><\/p>\n

Pourtant je trouve qu’elle a eu du courage pour s’engager sans conna\u00eetre. Elle habite une petite ville qui a beaucoup de caract\u00e8re et de charme, dans une maison un peu \u00e9trange car c’\u00e9tait autrefois un atelier : il en reste un salon immense avec une grande baie, de grands volumes. Nous avons crois\u00e9 ses h\u00f4tes qui s’absentaient ce jour-l\u00e0. M\u00eame en leur absence, on per\u00e7oit la chaleur humaine dans leur domicile.<\/p>\n

J’admire Fiona qui a fait le choix de partir de son pays pour longtemps. J’admire les \u00ab\u00a0helpers\u00a0\u00bb, car ils sautent dans le vide. Pour nous, chaque nouvelle personne est d’abord quelqu’un \u00e0 rencontrer, quelqu’un que nous d\u00e9sirons conna\u00eetre. Nous aussi, nous sautons dans le vide, mais c’est une aventure sans risque : nous sommes chez nous. Nous voyageons sans bouger en rencontrant ces personnes tr\u00e8s diverses.<\/p>\n

Je suis heureuse de pouvoir penser \u00e0 chacun d’entre vous quand mes yeux se portent ici ou l\u00e0. Pas seulement sur le souvenir des photos, mais aussi sur les am\u00e9nagements auxquels vous avez particip\u00e9.<\/p>\n

\u00a0Helpers… and after ?<\/span><\/h1>\n

Fiona arrived on Aug. the 21st, exactly when there was much work in the kitchen: there was an urgent need of renovation. She was not there when we unbuilt it, but she was there during reconstruction.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

Marie and B\u00e9atrice were still there.<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

The next day the tiles were set: Fiona helped a lot for the new kitchen layout.<\/span><\/p>\n

There was stil much to do outside.<\/span><\/p>\n

Harvesting raspberries, beans… Preparing tomatos. Disassembling the pole we used for the bean that were installed by Paul and Janet…<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/span><\/a>\"\"<\/span><\/a>\"\"<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

With Fiona, we spoke French. She speaks very well with little accent. When Beatrice and Mary were still there, everyone spoke French.<\/span><\/p>\n

Jonny, his boy-friend, arrived on September 4th and they both went to Savoie for another\u00a0 HelpX contract. He\u00a0 drove Fionas’s car from England, now they can travel more easily.<\/span><\/p>\n

On November 10th, Fiona invited us to Chatillon, where she now works.We were happy to meet her a new time and to exchange news – there is the blog of course, but il is not the same.<\/span><\/p>\n

She showed us pictures of their stay in Savoie, trekking in the mountains, \u00ab\u00a0via ferrata\u00a0\u00bb. The required work was organized in a very different way, and both were able to enjoy days of freedom, for walking or searching work.<\/span><\/p>\n

Now Fiona is a part-time English assistant in a school. The atmosphere is pleasant, she is among friendly people. She lives in a house where the children, grown up, were gone: she has space for herself in her bedroom, of course, in the whole house, and also in her guests’ hearts.<\/span><\/p>\n

She is very lucky: there are so many people who are isolated, lonely, in a country where they speak the language poorly or not at all! Life in solitude is so difficult, if you do not choose it!<\/span><\/p>\n

\"\"<\/span><\/a><\/span><\/p>\n

But I think that she is courageous because commiting without knowing. She lives in a small town that has much character and charm, in a house that is a little strange, because it was formerly a workshop: there, a huge living room with a large bay remaining, big volumes. We met shortly her hosts who were absent that day. Even in their absence, we could fell the human warmth in their home.<\/span><\/p>\n

I admire Fiona who made the choice to leave her country for a long time. I admire the \u00ab\u00a0helpers\u00a0\u00bb as they jump into the void. For us, every new person is first someone to meet, someone we want to know. We also jump into the void, but it is an adventure without risk: we’re at home. We travel without moving by meeting these very diverse persons.<\/span><\/p>\n

I am happy to think of each of you when my eyes are here or there. Not only on the memory of the photos, but also on the different works you did.<\/span><\/p>\n
