Clive stayed here for a dozen days, we had a great time with him. He worked hard to dig a trench, and closed it up so well that you can’t see it anymore. I struggled to help Paul thread the tube through the shaft, but in the end the water and electricity were delivered safely.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n

Il n\u2019a pas besoin d\u2019explication, il est autonome. Il nous a pr\u00e9par\u00e9 un excellent repas tha\u00ef qui lui a demand\u00e9 des heures de travail, un moment m\u00e9morable !<\/strong>
Clive also built a bamboo structure for the beans to climb. He really helped us a lot, he has a lot of experience and in many areas. He does not need an explanation, he is autonomous. He cooked us an excellent Thai meal that took hours of work, a memorable moment!<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n

I go as often as possible by bike to buy bread from Gauthier or his colleague, which I pay for in tissous, the local currency, still too little used around here. And, as too often, I leave it to Paul to prepare most of the meals. He’s also the one who goes to the market and I would have a hard time if I had to supply the house, I’ve lost the habit!<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n

Paul rarely sleeps after six o’clock, which allows him to be in the garden at seven o’clock… It’s the right time, the nights remain cool. The water flows here and there, in the tanks, in the pond, in the watering cans, to end up invariably in the zucchinis, already in overproduction, here as everywhere.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n

In other words, it’s routine, routine also our very pleasant weekly meeting with Jacques and P\u00e4ivi. Working with them motivates Paul and me to try to find a moment to make music every day. We’re pretty much keeping up!<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n

Gauthier le boulanger est aussi chanteur : la Chorale Rurale Itin\u00e9rante donnait un concert pas loin d\u2019ici et nous avons \u00e9t\u00e9 tr\u00e8s heureux d\u2019y assister, Paul et moi, avec Sylvane et Nanath. <\/strong>
Ce spectacle venait tout juste d\u2019\u00eatre cr\u00e9\u00e9 pour parler de voyage, nous proposant des chants d\u2019un peu partout sur la plan\u00e8te. J\u2019avais d\u00e9j\u00e0 pu entendre ce groupe interpr\u00e9ter quelques titres, c\u2019est la premi\u00e8re fois que j\u2019assiste \u00e0 un spectacle complet, je suis combl\u00e9e. Il y a du d\u00e9cor, de l\u2019invention, plein d\u2019id\u00e9es ! Parfois quelques mots, sans doute pour \u00e9viter la monotonie, et pour aider au passage d\u2019une r\u00e9gion \u00e0 une autre. Mais surtout il y a une superbe ma\u00eetrise de la technique, c\u2019est tr\u00e8s harmonieux, alors que ce sont des interpr\u00e9tations difficiles. Et c\u2019est parti pour des percussions corporelles. Neuf personnes chantent, Soizic est chef de ch\u0153ur le plus souvent, parfois c\u2019est un(e) autre choriste qui donne le d\u00e9part et accompagne le chant.<\/strong>
Je souhaite longue vie \u00e0 cette belle chorale qui nous a fait passer une superbe soir\u00e9e.<\/strong>
Gauthier the baker is also a singer: the Chorale Rurale Itin\u00e9rante (Itinerant Rural Choir) was giving a concert not far from here and we were very happy to attend, Paul and I, with Sylvane and Nanath.<\/span><\/strong>
This show had just been created to talk about travel, offering us songs from all over the planet. I had already been able to hear this group perform a few titles, this is the first time that I have attended a complete show, I am overwhelmed. There’s decor, invention, lots of ideas! Sometimes a few words, no doubt to avoid monotony, and to help the transition from one region to another. But above all there is a superb mastery of the technique, it is very harmonious, while these are difficult interpretations. And here we go for body percussion. Nine people sing, Soizic is the choir director most often, sometimes it is another chorister who gives the start and accompanies the singing.<\/span><\/strong>
I wish long life to this beautiful choir which made us spend a superb evening.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n

La FAMDT, F\u00e9d\u00e9ration des Acteurs et Actrices des Musiques et Danses Traditionnelles publie des \u00e9missions de radio sur l’histoire du folk en France<\/a> : j\u2019ai \u00e9cout\u00e9 avec un immense plaisir l\u2019interview de Catherine Perrier, qui me ram\u00e8ne au temps d\u2019avant. Avant de me conna\u00eetre, Paul \u00e9tait d\u00e9j\u00e0 passionn\u00e9 de musique traditionnelle, et avait suivi les errances du Bourdon, les concerts dans des villages perdus, les festivals avec des vingt mille personnes, ces rencontres o\u00f9 chacun essayait d\u2019aligner quelques notes sur un violon ou tout autre instrument.<\/strong>
The FAMDT, Federation of Actors and Actresses of Traditional Music and Dance publishes radio programs on the history of folk in France<\/a>: I listened with great pleasure to the interview with Catherine Perrier, which takes me back to the time before. Before knowing me, Paul was already passionate about traditional music, and had followed the wanderings of the Bourdon, the concerts in remote villages, the festivals with twenty thousand people, these meetings where everyone tried to align a few notes on a violin or any other music instrument.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n

Souvenirs des d\u00e9buts d\u2019un mouvement assez prodigieux o\u00f9 Catherine et Emmanuelle Parrenin ont eu une part consid\u00e9rable. Je n\u2019ai \u00e9cout\u00e9 que ces deux \u00e9missions, et encore je n\u2019ai pas termin\u00e9 la deuxi\u00e8me. J\u2019y entends les noms de ces personnalit\u00e9s hors du commun que Paul avait eu le grand plaisir de c\u00f4toyer, Christian Leroi-Gourhan (oui, le fils du pr\u00e9historien Andr\u00e9), Jean-Fran\u00e7ois Dutertre \u00e0 la si belle voix, Michel Hindenoch que nous avons revu r\u00e9cemment comme conteur, et tant d\u2019autres. <\/strong>
I followed Paul in 1973 to the Pons festival where the same melody was played everywhere, like a hymn, an emblem, where good humor was present. Groups from all over followed one another on stage until late at night and we were listening, lying in the meadow. Memories of the beginnings of a rather prodigious movement in which Catherine and Emmanuelle Parrenin had a considerable sharing. I have only listened to these two radio programs, and yet I have not finished the second. I hear the names of these extraordinary personalities whom Paul had had the great pleasure of meeting, Christian Leroi-Gourhan (yes, the son of the prehistorian Andr\u00e9), Jean-Fran\u00e7ois Dutertre with such a beautiful voice, Michel Hindenoch whom we recently reviewed as a storyteller, and so many others.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n

Emmanuelle Parrenin s\u2019est trouv\u00e9e en 1968 sur l\u2019\u00eele aux Coudres, au Qu\u00e9bec, pour faire du collectage de chansons et de musique avec les gens de son groupe, aupr\u00e8s d\u2019une famille comptant vingt enfants – ce qui est incroyable pour nous et assez commun l\u00e0-bas \u00e0 l\u2019\u00e9poque. Plus extraordinaire, dix-huit enfants \u00e9taient sourds et muets. Cependant, on ne les distinguait pas des autres car les sourds captent les vibrations et peuvent avoir un excellent sens du rythme. Pour Emmanuelle, ce fut une r\u00e9v\u00e9lation des capacit\u00e9s ignor\u00e9es des sourds.<\/strong>
Emmanuelle Parrenin was in 1968 on \u00cele aux Coudres, in Quebec, to collect songs and music with the people of her group, with a family of twenty children – which is incredible for us and quite common there at the time. More extraordinary, eighteen children were deaf and mute. However, they were indistinguishable from others because the deaf pick up vibrations and can have an excellent sense of rhythm. For Emmanuelle, it was a revelation of the ignored capacities of the deaf.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n

\u00ab I\u2019ve never been so old, \u00bb Sarclo says in his latest CD. I think he hates this. He is an ambiguous character, and who pretends to be nasty, to be cynical, but his lyrics bring tears to my eyes. That’s why I love them, him and his work, for this humanity, this skin-deep sensitivity. In the process, do not forget his operator Corinne with whom exchanging emails is a real pleasure.<\/span><\/strong>

Sarclo’s texts are direct. He criticizes Hugues Aufray for having watered down those of Dylan. For example by translating breasts by kidneys. So Sarclo translated them. On his site, you will find the original texts and the translations.<\/span><\/strong>

His guitar playing particularly impressed Jean-Pierre and Lolo, who went to see Sarclo’s false nails up close. I saw on a video some sort of metal ring on Joan Baez’s nails, while Frasiak prefers to play with the pulp of his fingers.<\/span><\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n
